our news at the end of the summer 23| eleonas hotel

Dear Friends,

Every September we collect the memories of the summer and try to describe them with words...something like the essay we had to write in elementary school "how I spent my summer vacation" .

June had little rain, in July we melted from the heat and in August the fire of 2021 was the topic of our conversations.

After all, how could we avoid it when, unfortunately, there were fires all over Greece

Old and new guests, Greeks and foreigners, we all get together as one group at “eleonas” and we celebrate weddings, anniversaries, birthdays.

Guests came again after 17 years and others who were with us even  last year. We see their children and grandchildren growing up.

Awkward...  we are getting older...but still having fun

This summer also had some setbacks.

I fell off my motorbike and scarred my face, skinned my hand and bruised my whole body.

Luckily, I didn’t break anything so I continued working.

The terrible bad weather hit our region 4-5-6-7 Sep 2023. An incredibly large amount of water fell from the sky. Dams broke, torrents overflowed, properties, roads and houses were flooded.

The small bridge at the entrance to the hotel was blocked with rocks and logs and  guests were stranded for two days.

The floor in the mill is finally finished but we still have to paint, to put the doors, to deal with the exterior and much more.

So, we continue to do the olive oil tasting in the guesthouse under the olive trees.

But the olive press is cleaned and ready to work.

We were part of the organization team and actively participated in the 1st Rovies Food Fest. It is a Festival of Tastes where we present the products and producers of the region.

More detailed description in the next newsletter.

We also participated in the Gastronomic Festival organized by the Region of Central Greece in Limni  selling our olives.

The location, at the port of Limni, was excellent.

We worked for long hours sometimes with high temperatures, or with strong wind or rain. We haven’t solved the staffing problem yet. We are looking for a couple who would like to stay in Rovies and help with the estate and the guest house.

kind regards

Marina and Stefanos
